The 2016 PSDE Live Endoscopy Workshop in partnership with Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) was recently held last October 5-7, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel with the theme "Reaffirming and Utilizing the latest Breakthroughs in Endoscopy". This was the 10th Workshop held by the society, coinciding with its 40th founding anniversary.
The first day's activity consisted of the Ex Vivo Hands on Workshop at CSMC involving fellows in training and nurses where the fellows practiced doing endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic clip placement for bleeding lesions during gastroscopy, common bile duct cannulation during ERCP and needle biopsy during endoscopic ultrasound on endoscopic models and preserved animal specimen with the nurse participants assisting. A total of 46 fellows and 100 nurses were involved in the workshop. Lectures were also given on endoscope cleaning and solutions for common endoscopic problems.
The second and third days of the workshop were held at Crowne Plaza Hotel. Didactic lectures were given on the second day on different endoscopic topics including the latest image enhancement technology and techniques.
Demonstrations of endoscopic procedures were done on the third day at CSMC and beamed live to the conference at Crowne Plaza Hotel. These showcased the different available technology and endoscopic techniques.
It was a highly successful conference with 537 attendees including 183 nurses and 309 doctors, both PSDE members and non-members. Kudos to Organizing Committee led by PSDE Vice-President Dennis Ona who was the overall chair. We would also like to thank the different pharmaceutical and endoscopic companies that supported the conference.
